Watts was born 28 September 1968. When her family moved to Australia and Watts
made her film debut in For Love Alone (1986). She then appeared in three
television shows, Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ(91), and Home and Away
(91) and Flirting (1991). Watts was an unpromising actor when she first came to
the United States. She acted in small-scale movies and eventually became an
actress. This was the beginning of her rise to international fame. Watts then
played a tormented journalist in the remake of The Ring (2002). Her portrayal
of the mother grieving in Alejandro's 21 Grams (2003) was nominated for an
Academy Award. Watts' star power increased when she appeared in I Heart
Huckabees (2004). King Kong (2006), Eastern Promises ((2007)) and The
International (2009). For her role as Maria Bennett in the disaster film The
Impossible (2012), Watts was awarded an additional Academy Award nomination for
Best Actress. In the 2010s, Watts was in films such as Birdman (2014) St.
Vincent (2014) St. Vincent (2015), While We're Young (2016), The Glass Castle
(2017) and Luce (2018). Watts kept her acting career going through film roles
that were blockbusters, like in Divergent (2015-2016).
