Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born on May 3rd,
1986. She received her training at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris and
has been featured in films such as Loup (2009), Sleepless Night (2011) and
Hacker's Game (2015). She plays the character of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic
Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War
(2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom Klementieff was raised in Quebec City
to a Korean father and French-Russian mother. He was employed as a consul with
the French government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Pom was her name
since it sounds similar to the Korean words "spring" and 'tiger"
in Korean. Klementieff stayed in Canada for a time of one year, before her
family traveled extensively due to her father's job. They resided in Japan as
well as the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. The father of Klementieff
died from cancer when she was 5 and her mother suffered from schizophrenia and
could not care for children which is why Klementieff was raised by her aunt and
uncle who were paternal. Her uncle, who she described as "like [her]
father" passed away at the age of 18 years old. Her brother, who was older
who committed suicide seven years later, was her aunt. Klementieff was a
student at law school for a short time following the death of her uncle in
order to please her aunt, however she did not find the academic path
attractive. She was also an waitress in France and a salesperson. In the Cours
Florent drama academy in Paris she started acting when she was 19. A few months
into her education, she won the competition for theater, which gave the
opportunity to take classes for free for two years at the school's most
prestigious teachers. Klementieff was the stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve in
Apres lui (2006), her first ever professional acting role. Three days were
spent on filming her scenes. One scene saw Klementieff pushing a person down a
set of stairs, but she fell. Gael Morel saved that footage for the final film.
Loup (2009) was her debut film with a leading role. It's a French film about a
group of Siberian mountain reindeer herders. Klementieff filmed for hours at a
camp that was far from the closest village. The temperature plummeted to below
zero while filming.
